Notable Historic FactsLandmark Building listed on National and California Registry of Historic Places Historic Site: battle between Indians and early California settlers. Historic marker in front lawn commemorates that Indian Bones were unearthed. Spanish Colonial Clubhouse was designed by noted architects Gable & Lyons, and erected in 1925. It is significant as an early California architectural example. Mrs. Burton Greene was a founding Member (Burton Greene established Beverly Hills as residential community) and Mr. & Mrs. Will Rogers and Mary Pickford were contributors The Beverly Hills Electric Fountain (Santa Monica Blvd. at Wilshire Blvd.) - Elizabeth Frazier Lloyd, mother of Harold Lloyd, raised money through the Beverly Hills Women's Club to build this fountain in 1930. El Greco, Saint Francis of Assissi, 1580 painting was exhibited in 1930. Amelia Earhardt lectured at the club in 1935 Gloria Swanson was master of ceremonies of the 1st flower show in Beverly Hills at the club in 1937. Will Rogers’ Horse Shows Norma Shearer (Mrs. Irving Thalberg), member, Oscar award winner, active in BHWC fundraising for children’s orphanages. Fashions in foods was published by the Beverly Hills Women’s Club with a foreword by Will Rogers. Joan Crawford contributed first published recipe for “guacamole”.
